Curry is the greatest dish of English cuisine.

[-] Johanno@feddit.org 17 points 3 weeks ago

The best German dishes are Döner, Spaghetti and Lasagne.

[-] Noodle07@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

France favorite dish is couscous

[-] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Favourite? Hmm, maybe? We have many delicious local dishes, which maybe other regions don't know about. Whereas couscous is more widely spread because Maghreb immigrants are everywhere.

[-] Noodle07@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yup, but somehow couscous is the top 4 🤷

[-] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

Fuckin schnitzel doesn't matter or anything!?

[-] Johanno@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago

Well Schnitzel is in the top 10. But only the one from Vienna

[-] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Sure it does, but the Japanese perfected it.

[-] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

Somehow I completely believe that, and schnitzel and Sapporo sounds really good

While I've never had the privilege of doing so in-country, it seems straightforward to make and would absolutely pair with Japanese beer*: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katsudon

* - Also something the Japanese refined from the Germans.

Tonkatsu is amazing.

[-] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Schnitzel don't hold a sausage to a good Bratwurst though!

[-] moakley@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, Germany has the best sausage.

[-] Ibuthyr@lemmy.wtf 1 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, the Spanish and Italians have way better sausages.

[-] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Eh what? Not the same kind of sausages I think. Spain and Italy have the dry meat type and Germany has the uncooked type. Very different culinary experiences. I tend to agree with you though.

[-] moakley@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I don't like fennel.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 weeks ago

199398500A is the only one popular abroad tbh

[-] moakley@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

More popular than bratwurst? I guess maybe that could be true somewhere, but I've never heard of that VW sausage before, and I've had bratwurst many, many times outside of Germany.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

I'm just kidding. Everyone who took German instead of Russian in school knows about bratwurst at least. But very few places around me serve it. VW Currywurst is more famous among car guys, but it's because of the meme status rather than how good it is or isn't.

However grilled sausage is super popular here and it's not too different from bratwurst I guess. We're very fond of grilling here, personally I usually spend all 3 days of summer on grilling and alcohol.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 weeks ago

TIL about the Volkswagen sausage.

[-] Drusas@fedia.io 3 points 3 weeks ago

But käsespätzle....

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

What about doner kebab and garlic sauce?

[-] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

That's German! /s

[-] fishy@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago

In Japan they consider curry a European dish, so you're not really wrong.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago

That’s cos the British took curry to japan and the japanese adapted a local curry sauce from it. Katsu is a japanisation of “cut” - as in cut chicken.
