Democrat Taylor Rehmet won a special election for the Texas state Senate on Saturday, flipping a reliably Republican district that President Donald Trump won by 17 points in 2024.

The democrats will win congress next year, perhaps a democratic president will win in 2028. Then the gop will win congress and the presidency in the 2030s

This is expected and does not change what is happening. These elections are drama to distract. Many who fear fascism will find hope when the good guys win, and citizen’s attempts to reform the government will be diluted. Then they will be horrified again later when the bad guys win.

We have been watching these flips dictated by elections that fail United Nations tests for almost two generations now. Each good cop/bad cop cycle makes us poorer and less healthy and less well fed.

Agreed. That's the most bleak part of it all. Whether you play for the red or blue team, you're only really voting fascist or collaborator in the end.

The only way to win is to not play. There may not be the ability to organize change in the national level, ever again. But I feel states and towns can improve things

Frankly, yeah.

I don't think we have any real power to sway things at the federal level. (Unless you're a billionaire or willing to pull a Player 2.)

It's still possible to do a vast amount of good in your local community, and I think everyone should. For example, Kansas City's city council just passed a 5-year moratorium on any permits or zoning for ICE "mass detention" facilities.
