Not a catgirl but hella neurodivergent.
I’ve been getting back into FOSS games again, specifically Luanti. Luanti is a voxel (Minecraft-like) engine, formerly called Minetest.
Luanti is awesome in that it goes so. far. beyond anything that Minecraft does. There’s a whole in-engine content browser of various games you can install to the engine, alongside mods and texture packs. Even the big Minecraft-like games; VoxeLibre and Mineclonia have features that MC doesn’t.
Luanti is also programmed in Lua, which is a more human-readable and generally accessible coding language. There’s solid modding documentation, and the content community is great.
Gameplay controls are granular, and can be customized on a per-game basis. There’s different map generation methods which also adds to the customizability.
AND IT’S ALL COMPLETELY FREE.
The minor downsides are poor gamepad support and harder-to-find answers due to the community being small, but that’s just part of being relatively niche.
Oh, and it’s available on F-Droid.
I’m also working on a texture pack based on a pre-existing HD pack, but haven’t reached out to the original maintainer yet to formally add to the project/upload a separate version.
One of the few games I’m willing to play KBM for because I just love it that much 😁
Oh yeah Luanti, I've discovered this engine recently too !
One thing I dislike about the project though, is how everything should be backwards-compatible. I feel like it stifles innovation and bugfixes, see https://xkcd.com/1172/ and https://github.com/luanti-org/luanti/pull/16946
It'd gain from being more known though
