It certainly was thousands, as the Iranian government itself has said 3,000 were killed. So somewhere from 3,000 to 36,000.

But my point is that any effort to topple the Iranian government will inevitably kill hundreds of thousands if not millions of civilians. And whatever government forms after will likely be even worse, if recent US interventions in the region are any indication. We toppled Saddam and got ISIS instead.
Oh I totally agree I'm just curious about the casualty numbers since the US gov has an incentive to exaggerate and the Iranian gov has the the opposite incentive. So I suspect the real number is in the middle. Horrible stuff, I hope the Iranian people can achieve liberation somehow but I agree US intervention is unlikely to improve things.
