United Kingdom
General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
Yeah, a lot of people from non-white backgrounds are voting Reform. They think being born here equates them to being at level with WASPs, and my 18-year old cousin is gleefully telling me how he'd like to send all the migrants back on boats whilst apparently thinking that he will be spared during such a purge.
I'm picking on him because he's young, but he's just voicing the "close the door" narrative that his uncles and grandparents are telling him as they've struggled to get jobs due to competing labour.
They're just not seeing that the "close the door behind me" narrative is actually code for "flush out non-whites"
An attack against one is an attack on all.
Agreed, I've also seen and heard a lot of this attitude, going back decades now.
In addition, I think that Islamophobia is very widespread in the UK, including among ethnic minority groups. Both white and non-white Islamophobes see anti-immigrant polices as partly or primarily a way to persecute Muslims and prevent more of them coming to the UK.
