The decline was led by youth aged 15 to 24 years old, with a drop of 47,000.

It's like we're dead set on radicalizing our youth. :(

The youth unemployment rate is so bad. i)Just create a grade 13 to bring up everyone's education level.
ii)Make college free.

Hopefully we'll get an alternative voice to PP who can talk to young Canadians when the NDP leadership election is done. One that would offer them believable material improvements.

PPs bad plans, like "tying immigration to housing" whatever that means.

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 5 points 20 hours ago

If that were the only thing PP planned, me and my friends would not have spent money on defeating him. More like privatizing the CBC which would put all TV media under corporate ownership. And we know what effects on democracy that has.

Ya I felt like Pierre around 2021, when we were doing mass immigration into a housing crisis and the media turned a blind eye. I'm pretty pessimistic on most Canadian media, Vassy excluded.

Its not just about what they offer but getting their voice out there as well. Much as i hate it, they'll have to make short form content like tiktoks or shorts to reach that demographic. Some podcast appearances could help as well.

Jagmeet also had a tik tok presence.

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

The presence is necessary but not sufficient.

Fingers crossed. But I'm not holding my breath.

Skepticism is super warranted. Skepticism of the mind, optimism of the will!

I'm hoping for Ashton, I think him being a worker will bring some actual legitimacy to a labour party. Unfortunately we'll probably get Lewis who seems about the same as Singh.

I voted Rob first, Avi second. I think while Avi looks Singh-like at first glance, is very different ideologically and when examined in detail or listened to. But if he's elected leader, he must convince you of that himself.

It's ok, Boomers still have all the money.

[-] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 0 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Gen X has all the money actually.

And they got way richer during COVID.

They’re the only demographic that got wealthier during COVID.

Gen X has all the money actually.

Do we? I hadn't noticed.

And they got way richer during COVID.

Again, that's not this gen-Xer's experience. I (along with a lot of my co-workers) lost our jobs during and shortly after covid.

And ain't nobody hiring "old people", and especially not at anywhere near the income we were making before.

It's not equally distributed for sure, what we see in the actual data is the avg Gen X household has had continuous economic growth. If you play with the data and break it out even further, the wealthiest Gen Xers are the ones who are mopping up all the growth.

Millenials and Boomers are relatively stagnant, but Boomers are retiring and drawing down on savings. They merge Millenials and Gen Z in this data, which I think is problematic, but whatever.

Edit: if you break it down, it looks like 44+ is the age group benefitting the most -- not sure what in the Simpson's paradox is driving the Gen X numbers so much in the first chart
