The statement does not say how they propose to help, although Defence Minister David McGuinty says Canada is “considering” aiding Iran’s neighbours if they seek assistance from the NATO alliance

I though nato was about defending europe not gulf countries.

Aiding Irans neighbours who are involved because they house US military bases while the US is attacking Iran.

That is support for the US in their war, being indirect does not change that.
