i used to be on this other small forum like a decade ago, and this mid 40s right-wing, pro-war, stereotypical social conservative used to get Huge Mad when i referred to right wingers as "reactionaries". as in "the reactionaries are using their blundered handling of katrina as an example of why federal emergency support and aid is a bad idea and shouldn't be funded."
he constantly tried to claim it was a slur and have its use banned.
people just laughed at him or tried to explain how innocuous/historically factual it was, but eventually (years) some other right wing douche bought the small forum, became admin, and banned me.
no matter what you call these sniveling worms, the absolute slime of humanity, they will cry foul and piss themselves in rage.
The best thing to call them is "liberals". Because it's factually accurate, and they'd hate it more than anything.

This. Bullies are almost always extremely powerful both physically and socially, and know society will always take their side.
Same reason bullies in school will fake cry when the nerd they’re bullying tells them “please stop, you’re being a jerk!”
Charisma is a suspect trait.
Very often it's just one or the other, and not necessarily "extremely powerful" either. There are lots of people who are looked down upon by most of the people in their life and use whatever little bit of power they have to abuse people with even less power to feel better about themselves.
The state often will, but broader society is in fact different from high school.
