China is establishing alternative trade routes to bypass major US controlled chokepoints like the straight of Malacca. Iran is a literally crossroads of the world and China's trade with Africa and West Asia has to travel through it. Iran also supplies 50% of China's oil and because China doesn't have any significant domestic oil reserves this is critical to their industry and national defence.
This is INCREDIBLY important to geopolitics. The very existence of trade outside of US monitered/controlled routes especially without the use of the dollar is an enourmous threat to its global hegemony and domestic economy. China's number 1 goal is to create economic relations outside of the US sphere of influence resulting in a multipolar rather than unipolar world economy. The geographical location of Iran is critical to this.
I genuinely can't stress this enough. Israel almost certainly "started it" because they need Iran gone more than the US does but the US is also very interesting in an utterly dysfunctional Iran. The goal likely isn't to control that territory or even to extract resources from it. The goal is to make it unmanageable/uninvestable for decades.
Also oil
That's bullshit. This will not improve the US economy. Trump has always enriched himself on the expense of US economy. Trump does not give two fucks about the american economy and has never done anything to put his country intrest first. . not even Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Ben Shapiro, Rubio, .. no one said this stupid shit you came up with. Please, before you get offended and shut down, please read until the end of my comment:
BEFORE THE WAR the US already had %100 total control over all of the oil and gas trades in the gulf reigon with all of them trading it exclusively in petrodollars and re-inveating %100 of all their profits back into US stocks and defense contracts on top. They also had put both Russia and Iran under crippling sanctions where both were hardly able to sell any of it in the most discounted prices worldwide. So that's not why they went there.
The US is fighting wars for Israel settler-colonial expansion and hegemony because all their congress is fully bribed and Trump is fully comprimised by Netenyahu.
Your reason doesn't make sense because the Britian empire figured this out since 1700 when they were controlling all trade routes of all the nations they invaded. Because even if the US spent $300 billions and fully and successfully invaded Iran to secure Hormuz, (which would take securing bases along all the coast and the mountains of west Iran aka long-term invasion that needs 200k soldiers deployment), and iran stopped having any government and became a bunch of militias controlling different reigons, the US still will not stay there and have everything to lose to stay there just like Iraq. How much do you think it costs to sustain this bullshit otherwise they would be there extracting minerals from Afghaistan and in iraq still exporting their oil. They are fighting for Netenyahu because the US government represents Israel first, and on the other hand these oil and weapon execs and the ones making these decisons are getting richer and nothing to lose.
I diagree with a few key points
Yes and no. It will improve the "economy" in that wealthy powerful people will enrich themselves through it and it weakens a threat to their wealth and power. This is what state officials often mean when they say that our economy is doing well. It is, for them, and they need to insure that this continues. One of the purposes of the state is to direct the often very short term interests/incentives of the various capitalists towards long term interests. The economy, the one used to refer to the standard living conditions of the working class, will suffer from this war, they just don't care about that.
Trump does enrich himself through the power he wields yes but he has to care about the American economy because he IS beholden to other people. Not you and me but rather the other members of his class. If he is to act too far outside of their interests he would be removed from power. He doesn't need our consent to rule, not really, but he does need theirs.
You should not be looking to these people's public facing statements for geopolitical analysis. They are not reliable sources. I honestly question whether these idiots are even aware that this is the reason, some of them genuinely do believe the nonsense they say.
Russia doesn't look so crippled to me. While Iran was suffering under sanctions they were doing far better than the US had expected. They also joined BRICS which is the current largest and most successful attempt to create a world trade network outside of American influence. Russia and Iran were "hardly able to sell oil" because they weren't selling it officially. They sold it to middle men who could skirt around sanctions. Trust me that oil was getting sold it just wasn't labelled Russian or Iranian anymore.
Entire major world economies do not fight wars because their politicians have been bribed. Our politicians are able to do what they are doing because it also serves the interests of their donors. Look at what their donors are saying. They need Israel to succeed because their unsinkable aircraft carrier in west asia is indespensable to maintaining control in that region.
Idr feel like responding to the rest, my partner wants to play stardew. Here's a video that covers this perspective better than me [video]
