I hate that I’m thinking this, because I know it’s a slippery slope, but if it’s just translating subtitles and not doing voice lines, that’s not all too terrible to use AI for. I know they’re starting to use AI for TV closed captioning.

Even actual human professionals have trouble guaranteeing good translations half the time, a clanker won't even understand nuances exist let alone how to deal with them. Maybe it'll be able to handle an extremely basic conversation better then a simple direct machine translation, but any abstract language is going to be butchered.

Exactly. Crunchyroll has apparently been using AI subs and the results are a decrease in quality
