is it just me who thinks it probably wasn't actually the BBC who made it up? I reckon they probably just deliberately, blindly swallowed what some gusano told them with zero fact checking to maintain a facade of plausible deniability. Not like there's any shortage of absolute freaks willing to just say random shit. Not that it matters, it's functionally identical.
Who made it up is irrelevant, it's that they chose to publish it to shape public opinion.
Yeah, that's what I'm getting at at the end. It was purely idle speculation, not any kind of apologia for the beeb.
They actually stealth edited the quote in the article to something less insane, so if it wasn't made up before, it is now
The BBC has had a persian propaganda outlet for decades. It's serving its pupose here
Could have also been a source from the CIA or its proxies, who give "tips" to journos all the time.
