Maybe she's a normal cake woman?
Normal ideas are welcome (or even non-cake desserts, if suitable). The chocolate marmalade one was described as "just a normal cake"—which makes sense, a lot of soviet recipes were dope at the time but people are in a totally different food system now lmao. Olivier salad still whips ass though. Mainly bc you can substitute a lot of ingredients, use sauce gribiche, better mustard, chicken, brussel sprouts..... Mmmmmmmmm brussels sprouts
Brussel sprouts are amazing. My go to cake is basque cheesecake. Very easy to make and you can add whatever sauce you want. Something normal like blackberry or caramel. Or less so like liquorice.
The recipe said "just a normal cake"...?
I put too much fanfare into making an Epic Soviet Cake, and she was underwhelmed xD, I had to coax that statement out of her in the days afterward but I could tell by her face
