Mr. Putin is still capable of preventing any harm to Russians from depleted-uranium ammunition by withdrawing all Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine.

Depleted uranium munitions aren't just a risk to Russians. They're a significant heath risk to everyone where they're used--Russian soldiers, Ukranian soldiers, and civilians.

[-] jeffw@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

You’re referring to how Putin has been using them the whole time, right?

Or are we not saying bad things about Russia in this thread?

[-] thetreesaysbark@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

Whilst I find it very believable that Russia have been using them the whole time, do you have a source? I did a quick check but all the noise at the moment is about the US and these shells.

It'd just be good to have reference to a source that they are already using them.

[-] bhmnscmm@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I'm simply stating depleted uranium munitions have health risks for everyone in response to the comment above me seemingly implying they're only a risk to Russians.

[-] FaceDeer@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

If the Russians withdraw then the munitions won't be used.

[-] cassetti@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yep, exactly. As cool as DU rounds sound on the battlefield as a competitive advantage for piercing armor. They are a health risk to both the soldiers handling them and absolutely poisons the soil which will have an affect on future generations living on that land.

But I guess that's the point - to scare the russians as well as salt the earth so it's useless irradiated soil for either side to use for decades to come...... Or I'm sure if Russia keeps the land, they'll simply mine it anyways and who gives a hoot about the health of government workers mining resources for the motherland, right?? /s

Maybe watch the news clip before commenting...

[-] xkforce@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

This seems like an odd thing to fixate on unless youre sympathetic to the russians.

[-] tram1@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

Odd thing to fixate on what? What Uranium is? An American soldiers getting sick from Uranium in Iraq? Learning things? That means you're sympathetic to Putin?

[-] xkforce@lemmy.world -2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah youre definitely sympathic to the russians. Piss poor job of hiding it too.

The russians can get the fuck out of Ukraine if they dont want Uranium poisoning through high velocity rounds.

[-] tram1@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago

I said "watch the news clip before commenting" because it has American vets being poisoned in Iraq, but I guess you didn't watch either...

[-] jimmydoreisalefty@lemmus.org 4 points 1 year ago

Usually, they just comment on emotion, instead of learning views that don't agree with.

Hopefully, we all keep on learning.

War kills the poor and working class, while making the elite and wealthy class more profit.

I am a chemist. Unlike you I actually know what depleted Uranium is and what the effects on the human body are without needing to be spoonfed by a youtube video. I am also aware of what the russians are doing to Ukrainians there and quite frankly, the russians are the far bigger problem. So I am going to say this again so that you understand: the russians had better get the fuck out of Ukraine or theyre going to die of Uranium poisoning.

[-] tram1@programming.dev 0 points 1 year ago

WTF is this "I am going to say this again so that you understand"? lol You wanna fistfight or something? You wanna measure our degrees? Please be more polite... I didn't say anything insulting or even extreme, neither did the news clip. You did earlier when you accused me of being pro-Putin for being concerned about fucking Uranium being used in a war which, I assume, is far closer to my home than yours... Also, by your attitude bad scientist.

[-] xkforce@lemmy.world -5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Take your downvotes and fuck off to rethink why you are the way that you are.

Yes I am angry. My family is from Ukraine. So yeah its a little bit more personal than most wars are.

[-] tram1@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago

OK. I understand this, but you shouldn't accuse people who are concerned about a war or hope for peace of being pro-Putin... Nothing I said, or the video said, is remotely pro-Putin... You instantly made me your enemy, equating me to people who support the opposite side. When things are most emotional one should be careful not to let their feelings cloud their judgment...

[-] xkforce@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Criticize Ukraine if the country survives. Right now, its just tone deaf.

[-] tram1@programming.dev 6 points 1 year ago

This is not criticizing Ukraine, it is criticizing the US and the UK... Anyway...

[-] thetreesaysbark@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

Oh no! Not the downvotes!

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Ukrainians are going to be poisoned you dumb fuck. The same shit happens everywhere these rounds are used. It poisons the land and water, and if they catch fire the air too. You don't have to be shot with one of these rounds to get contaminated, just ask US soldiers from Iraq
