Hehe, indeed. I found this painting in the collection The Civil War and American Art . I have a great fascination for this period in History. Around 2012 National Geographic made a really detailed issue on this period with a map of all the battles (should have kept it safe!).
I grew up near one of the battlefields and they attract all kinds of history buffs. In, fact my history teacher in high school is one of these guys.
He'd take us to the battlefield, the middle of the field, and explain what we'd be seeing if we were there at the time. It was incredible, even as a kid. But, I still didn't have as much appreciation for it as I would now.
Education is wasted on the youth.
I see him on FB occasionally and ask him to make videos, but he doesn't have the time. So it goes.
That's a shame, it's incredible how many battlefields there are. Years back there was a great documentary on Custer's last stand and they walked around with a metal detector finding brass where individual warriors stood firing repeaters at ill equipped troops :0
