Apps have their uses, but yeah for me any ads at all = too many. I use RedReader for reddit and now Thunder for lemmy, I have Iceraven with uBO for browsing and I have a DNS-based blocker too, for non-browser ads.

I'm one of the few that uses foss for everything I can and also gives back to devs, either through contributions and bug reports or monthly monetary donations. Advertising as a funding source is so 'ew' to me.
