Is there anything I need to keep in mind? Does running Graphene void any warranty and cause them to deny my request? How much do I need to pay in the US?

Thanks!

You find a repair shop, you give them like $15 + battery cost when it'll take about an hour.

The stores I've used are Google authorized and had no warranty implications. They will probably have to factory reset the phone to run their tests but I would call them to just ask instead of looking for generic advice.

I’d like to piggy back in this. I worked for Asurion and Assurant Both are authorized for Google in warranty and insurance repairs. They have to have your device factory reset. Google claims this is a security measure which it is to a degree but it’s mostly because the pixel diagnostic suite requires full access to the biometrics on the device.

I assume they can do this and I think they plan on something like it (pretty sure I heard this from Mishaal Rahman on a podcast). But yeah the way pixel devices come apart is way more granular which is a good thing but can end up in more issues from things breaking. Google doesn’t have the best rack record with build quality unfortunately.

They probably don't but want to set up limited scope testing to avoid having to argue over a battery not randomly working because a random rom is installed.

It's dumb but I get why it's done.

I loved ifixit and now asurion. They have always treated me so fucking well.

Why do you need to change the software at all to replace the battery?

I had my screen repaired under warranty by them. They factory reset to keep your data safe.

They actually make you do it, before they even touch it. They allow you to do it in store, and will guide you on how to back things up, and use their WiFi to do it.

Definitely can be annoying, but Lemmy is all about privacy, and there's no way for a company to steal your data with their fancy diagnostic tools if the phone is factory reset.

Are you even able to do a full backup, including app data and settings, on Android without using Google services (which I refuse to touch)?

I used an Assurion store to replace my screen and they didn't require a factory reset, even with Lineage

Thank you, sorry I didn't reply earlier. That seems easy enough, I'm assuming they won't care about the OS I have on it

They'll probably wipe it TBH, but it won't hurt your warranty or anything.
