Dude I am 100% certain you replied to the wrong guy, because the only 40k stories I've read are Caiphas Cain books (which are pretty funny and entertaining).
Not really into grimdark though; when positive change is impossible I tend to check out and lose interest in the story.
I've heard so many good things about WH40k, but every time i search about it I get overwhelmed. Don't know where to start. Any tips?

Watch Alfabusa's If the Emperor Had a TTS Device! That's how I got introduced to it!
Not only is it funny as hell and entertaining to boot, it's extremely informative as an introduction to the lore!
Edit: A great resource to dive deeper after getting introduced to lore points is the good ol' wiki rabbit hole. :)
