Pretty great as an experiment. I wonder how this would fare in crash tests, whether there's a way to make composites work in practical scenarios.

Usually that's marketing speak for carbon fibre. And that is certainly safe, the bodyshell of the the BMW i3 is basically made entirely out of it. Or was, it was released back in 2013 and discontinued last year.
