Federal Government Employees are expecting to have a long holiday break due to Republican incompetence.
Sadly it would be unpaid. Except for Congress of course. They would still get fat checks for failure.
And folk like TSA and ATC have to work regardless.
Doing a lot of travel in a few weeks. Planned ahead with some massive (3 or 4 hour) connections but... yeah.
The VA is the largest healthcare provider in America....
If there's a shutdown, they all have to keep working and none of them get paid till after the shutdown.
And to get them all paid, other federal workers need to do a bunch of overtime to get it done ASAP.
So it costs even more to pay them what they should have been paid.
It's disappointing to see so many people act like this is somehow a positive for anyone.
Federal employees will get paid, but it might be delayed.
Which doesn't help if they are burning through their savings and still need to pay for food and rent.
Any government employee should know to have a govt shutdown plan in place. It's becoming common.
And they should just use their boostraps to pull themselves up? Also shave their head, grow a beard, and hit the gym?
Yes. Everyone should have savings they can live off of for an extended period of time. Not everyone has that luxury between cost of living, low salary, or just emergencies that drain those savings.
So maybe we can avoid the "it is their own fault if they are inconvenienced" stupidity and acknowledge that a government shut down is bad?
Given present politics, I see asses like Gaetz, MTG and Boebert in the House and Tuberville in the Senate, being fine with not paying our bills.
Yeah…. That’s not a holiday.
Jokes like these make it seem less not-okay for these asshats to fail at basic responsibilities just because fucking with the budget is a way to stick it to the democrat in office.
The reality is the financial stress imposed by people who are doing vital work fucks them over and leads to brain drain for the private sector. Federal employees deserve financial stability- or at least, not getting their paychecks dicked around with because some asshat wants to be obstructionist.
Federal employees will see it as one, free paid leave.
Nothing better than a free ‘paid’ leave when you still have to show up for work, don’t actually get paid, and can’t pay your rent! The very definition of vacation!
Not everyone will get free leave, but most will. Blame the Republicans, it's their fault.
My entire Command (and most of the rest of the DoD) are considered "excepted", which means we're still required to show up and work. The only silver lining is that the Government Employees Fair Treatment Act was passed in 2019, which guarantees that we will get back pay (and this still doesn't help everyone living paycheck to paycheck). Before that, it was actually an open question if we'd even be paid for the work done during the shutdown.
The law already says DoD gets paid. That was put in place awhile back.
