I'm thinking of picking up some parts or using an old laptop to host a few services, passbolt being one of them. I've seen that it requires an SMTP server though. Is this actually required? And would I be able to use this without getting a domain name?

To be honest, i don't know yet. I've yet to try both, and plan to anyway. Does vaultwarden require an SMTP server/domain name all the same?

It probably requires a domain name if you want it to be publicly available. SMTP is not required. I'd recommend vaultwarden.

It doesn't require it, but you can't send password reset or emergency access emails without it.
