I have my doubts about the methodology on the state per state breakdown. Michigan is all forests once you get north of Flint, so there is no way yhe squirrel to human ratio is less than 4:1. Same with Ohio

It's because this is basically a human population map (with the exception of Hawaii), no? Michigan and Ohio are still very populous states, so it offsets the squirrels.
