In the meantime, the american grey squirrels are invading Europe, taking over the whole continent, driving the local ginger squirrels to extinction, spreading diseases and pests like ticks.

[-] RickyRigatoni@lemmy.ml 10 points 10 months ago

About time ya'll got reverse-colonized.

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 7 points 10 months ago

You mean to tell me that even squirrels aren't nice to the gingers?

[-] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I wonder how many acorns [killer squirrels] can fit in the average person's anus...

[-] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

I'd like to see this overlaid with a heat map showing the portion of the population that knows what squirrel tastes like.

Yes.The JPEG compression in this pic is so bad, parts of it are excessively hard to read.

[-] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 0 points 10 months ago

Oh, okay, I didn't understand what you were getting at. Maybe lead with that, might help someone out.

[-] Furball@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

Is Papua New Guinea safe from the squirrels?

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 9 points 10 months ago

There are 4 squirrels in my backyard. I've been feeding them for years. We would never fight, we're buddies.

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 9 points 10 months ago

You will be offered the role of ambassador when the time comes.

Finally, my good nature is rewarded!

[-] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

All two of them ;)

[-] _cnt0@sh.itjust.works 8 points 10 months ago

Why ... why are you mapping our numbers and pitching us against you?

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 3 points 10 months ago

Don't worry about it

[-] Rolder@reddthat.com 8 points 10 months ago

TIL Hawaii doesn’t have squirrels

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 5 points 10 months ago

They have invasive little chickens instead.

[-] mongoosedadei@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

And loads of mongooses too!

[-] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Someone should do "When the mongooses took over". Where's the Dwigt Schrute we deserve?

[-] anthropomorphist@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago

can we have one for canada please?

[-] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Just one? They have 600 million, ask for two

[-] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 months ago

What's that even supposed to say?

[-] meant2live218@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Range of 2 ratios (11:1 to 20:1), and then 21:1 or higher.

[-] livus@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago

Why does that big red square state near the bottom have so many more squirrels than any of its neighbours?

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 7 points 10 months ago

That's New Mexico, and a good question.

[-] livus@kbin.social 9 points 10 months ago

My knowledge is limited to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul but it looks kind of deserty.

Maybe it has the same number of squirrels but way fewer people?

Or maybe squirrels like meth.

[-] norske@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 10 months ago

New Mexico just has a smaller human population than its neighbor states. Makes the ratio seem high.

[-] deo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Huh. Now that you mention it, the whole thing might just be a population scarcity map.

Edit: Except for Hawaii

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 months ago

That explains ME vs NH but not ME vs VT, unless it's just the size of ME encompassing more squirrels

[-] blanketswithsmallpox@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

I was just thinking about this the other day when I saw a gang of squirrels trying to murder each other while another fat ass drug a slice of pizza up a tree.

What a pleasant coincidence.

Squirrel to human ratio in my neighborhood: About 570:1... despite my dog reducing that number a little.

[-] Davel23@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago

Fight? They can fucking have it.

[-] Uncle_Bagel@midwest.social 3 points 10 months ago

I have my doubts about the methodology on the state per state breakdown. Michigan is all forests once you get north of Flint, so there is no way yhe squirrel to human ratio is less than 4:1. Same with Ohio

[-] dingus@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

It's because this is basically a human population map (with the exception of Hawaii), no? Michigan and Ohio are still very populous states, so it offsets the squirrels.
