I still don't see how this is analogous: the meat industry doesn't depend on my purchases any more than it depends on yours.

Yes, it does depend on your purchases more than mine. You're making the mistake of conflating a very small number with zero.
animals are killed in increasing numbers year over year every year. being vegan doesn't stop that.
