Am I the only one who feels the whole thing seems so off? Why would gay furry hackers be asking about catgirls? I struggle to see the sense in that. Sure, two women in a relationship are also per definition "gay", but I doubt a media outlet would use that definition.

Did someone do it for the meme and then blame gay furries because them being in IT positions is another meme?

The whole thing doesn't add up.

It adds up pretty easily. If you want to stir up fear against nuclear, you hack an irrellevant system of a nuclear power plant - like HR. Then you want as many people as possible to hear about it, so it scares as many people. So you think up something memable to spread the thing. Like "gay furry hackers want cat girls!". People then start writing articles, readers start sharing them because "funny thing" and others who don't like nuclear get "validated" in their opinion.
