I think it's pretty safe to say that the Republican Party is pro-corporation above all else.

Democrats could probably do more for consumers, but I have way more faith that they will actually try to do more.

[-] FontMasterFlex@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

both sides are bought and paid for.

[-] FunnyUsername@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

How many Republicans can you list that specifically don't accept corporate donations? As far as I know, that's only among democrats.

[-] FontMasterFlex@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

"my guy is doing good, it's everyone else that's bad". This is the reason we have a shit congress.

[-] kttnpunk@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I'm happy for you, but I don't share that optimism. Biden is a self-proclaimed capitalist, he's let ICE and the IDF keep doing their horrible crimes, certainly doesn't give a fuck about COVID, and time has practically ran out in regards to the climate situation...

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

While I agree, I do think there's a major difference between Biden and Trump and between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party when it comes to all those things.

Yes, Biden and the Democratic Party could do better. Sure. But it's still a thousand times better than anything Trump and the Republican Party want for this world. That's how I see it anyway.

[-] kttnpunk@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

"Could do better" is useless when we need "exceptional" more than ever, IMHO. The goalposts have shifted so far right since 2016...

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Sure, but I'm going to support the party that wants to do the most. Voting Republican or not voting will just go the opposite direction. That doesn't help anyone except those who want to take up back to the 1950s.

[-] kttnpunk@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Well personally I'm voting third party on principle, not sure who yet but I'm real real tired of people caping for Biden when if he really cared enough to do anything I wouldn't be terrified of another trump presidency. Ridiculous that that's still a possibility, but inevitable when our alternative is another less overtly racist capitalist who's arguably a lot more entrenched on the side of the establishment, undeniably senile and imo, far right for a democrat.

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

I don't really care much for Biden as a person or as the President. But I do care about the political platform of the Democratic Party. And voting third party or not voting will just help the Republicans and Trump and their weird religious platform. Yeah, I'm going to vote for Biden if he's the Democratic candidate.

You have fun with that. I don't believe it's that simple and I have no hope in them or politicians in general honestly.... I just believe it's important to stop the consolidation of power, and right now both Democrats and republicans work together to keep theirs from the people. You can see it with how the democratic platform hasn't changed. They refuse to truly embrace antifascism for example, even in the face of the increasingly fascist rhetoric and propaganda on the right. But gun control is still on the table, and abortion/bodily autonomy is still a game of tug-of-war?

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

If you want to learn about the world you'll live in if the Republican Party gets it's way, I suggest the Handmaid's Tale. Great entertainment until it's actually true. Third party voters help make that a reality.

[-] kttnpunk@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Lol the handmaiden's tale, I've stared nazis in the face counterprotesting- It's felt like reality for me as a trans person in America since 2016. I wish biden made me feel safer, but I'm only increasingly terrified about the future tbqh.

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Biden may not make you feel safer, but the threat of another Trump presidency and the current Speaker continuing should make you do everything in your power to keep them out of power. Just my two cents.

[-] kttnpunk@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Good point. I'm praying everyday for the gods to deliver righteous judgement on both. But also for "leftism", anarchism, mutualism, ecological socialism, communalism or literally almost anything else to have it's day in a country that claims to value freedom and equality and to love it's land. Pretty sensible ask imho since we have undue global influence due to sheer military force and installations, colonies, bases all over the world ntm we don't tax the ultra rich for shit.

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

I hear you. I'm voting for Democrats up and down the ballot simply because they are the closest to any of that and there are people in the party who are pulling that direction. I'd love to have other parties to vote for, but in a two-party, winner-take-all system, voting third party is just not an option.

[-] kttnpunk@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Well, again I don't believe it's that simple. Other parties can qualify for federal funding if they get a certain percentage of the vote and no matter what, mine is one for discontent. I just can't in good conscience defend Biden - in fact, I think he's quite possibly the biggest mistake the democratic party ever made. Still find his presidency hard to believe, he was falling asleep during the debates and pitching nothing groundbreaking- the DNC straight up chose him because he's boring and easy to puppet if you ask me. Ntm because sander's campaign and a actual leftist movement was growing exponentially...

[-] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Would have loved Sanders. But Biden was what was possible, and I'll take him any day of the week over any Republican.

I hope you find your way.

[-] kttnpunk@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Both were possible. One was just friendlier towards the ruling class, and all I'm asking is that people don't forget that.
