what a hulk of bullshit. I hate Google as much as anyone else but how the fuck do they have a monopoly over the app store when you can literally download .apk files from anywhere and install it?
They force anybody using the android trademark to include Google Play/Services, not a lawyer but I think that's "tying" when they force you to use one thing with something else.
And juries are unpredictable.
Why are you mad about this?
Google absolutely does.
Name me 4+ more Android app stores you can use?
Not that I am defending Google but there are plenty
Amazon App Store
Galaxy (Samsung) App Store
F-droid
Mi GetApps
SlideME
I class myself as a power user, other than Galaxy Store (which is also seem mostly as bloatware) is not offered on any non-samsung phone set up.
The Amazon App Store is acceptable but also gated
I'm on GrapheneOS without Play Store OR Aurora Store. I use Obtainium to track open source apps from Github Gitlab Codeberg F droid repos etc, and download the proprietary apps I need from ApkMirror and ApkPure (two third party app stores that you can download to your phone or just use their website and sideload apks).
Good luck doing any of that on iOS.
That doesn't sound like any main stream user can access that.
Of course, but Epic also doesn't want that. They just wSnt that 30% cut gone, that's exactly the only part they care about. In fact, epic of all companies loves locking people out of access. Sweeney is just pissed and throwing a tantrum and disguising it as a good thing. If he could have had this say "epic gets special treatment everyone gets fucked" he absolutely would have!
point is it is possible and for a company as big as Epic it's very easy to just say download the APK from our website
