What is vulgar about it? Is it obscene because it is done to women and non-believers?

The vulgar bit is the image of laughing Gus with a sweeping statement on wife beating in Islam.
The passages dealing with how men should treat their wives vary among interpretations of the Quran, and there are vocal groups within Islam against domestic violence.
And all those interpretations are equally valid, hence this meme. Also, do you think only muslims should talk about the problems of the quran?
So vocal that we never heard about them on TV or in the newspapers.
