The only French indie game that comes to mind is E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy which kind of fits, is there any other notables?
Dead Cells is Fr*nch.
The description sounds more like Blasphemous from Spain.
The American description sounds more French indie-games to me, like Dordogne or something. They have way more appreciation for Japanese aesthetics and theming.
French description sounds like wherever does dark-fantasy stuff, probably Spain/Italy/Russia maybe?
American indie location would be like: We remade the game and location you loved from the SNES era, again: likely a fantasy-style metroidvania.
There's a ton of Stardew Valley knockoffs coming out that for the American description and I think they're mostly American devs
We remade Harvest moon and the Mineral town you loved from the GBA era, again
Edge of Eternity is a french JRPG that also kinda fits.
OFF is a classic. That reminds me, I never beat Off...
Dishonored? Remember me? Syberia? Not as grimdark as EYE but dystopian to some degree
Dishonored? Remember me? Syberia? Not as grimdark as EYE but certainly dystopian
