Huh, you just helped me realize why authoritarians only ever seem to produce realism, and no other art.
Communist countries also produced a lot of abstract art. Most of it was still soulless though.
The US also prompted artists at the time to make abstract art that's soulless and sucks to show how "unconstrained" we were compared to soviet realism.
Turns out artists just don't make good art when force them to draw one specific thing for propaganda reasons.

Very debatable. For a very long time almost all art in Europe was inspired by religion: architecture, painting, music, sculpture... It's as right wing as can be (no hint of progressive ideas). But I'll be damned if I don't appreciate a good Fra Angelico, a Gothic cathedral, or Mozart's requiem. I'm sure there must exist aesthetically pleasing Nazi artworks, out of context (SS uniforms are famously fashionable)

It always sucks because it's propaganda. No don't listen to that evil devil music that talks about real shit, listen to this Jesus music that just talks about how great Jesus is and how feeling things is bad.
Leftist propaganda is awesome and cool. Like Star Wars, which is about how resisting fascist governments through violence and paganism is good.
