I would hardly classify it as rape, but it's certainly a form of cyberbullying/online harassment.

Harassment is nothing new for girls and women in online/gaming spaces. From one of the sources of that article, 77% of women responded dealing with at least some sort of frustration when gaming because of their gender. Judgements of skills (70%), gatekeeping (65%) and patronizing comments (50%) were the most reported types of comments women gamers said they received while gaming online. In addition, 44% of women gamer respondents have received unsolicited relationship asks while gaming.

It's the sad state of the industry and something that has gone unchecked for years. I remember watching Spawntaneous's OMG A GIRL series and feeling horrified at just how common harassment is for women in gaming. Insults, harassment, bullying, and derogatory comments thrown at people in online spaces can feel as real and hurt as much as real life bullying.
