Problem is with your 14 year old Hyundai, you probably don't have full coverage, so your insurance is going to pay to fix his BMW, you are going to pay to replace your Hyundai, and your insurance rates are going up.
Why would anybody in their right mind not have full coverage with a shitbox car? It's kinda the whole point.
Well the car is worth $500.- the repairs cost $2000.- . So the car is totaled. Here is your $500.- K bye.
Not everyone can afford it.
