I don't want to block world_news and news altogether, I still want to see the less political and the non ukraine war related news, so what other options do I have?

/c/lemmyconnect on Android lets you filter by keywords.

Thunder doesn't support it yet, but it has extremely active development and a great community. Maybe check it out, start an issue on GitHub.

Mlem supports this on iOS. Voyager does as well, it’s a progressive web app, so it works almost everywhere.
