TL;DW Use authenticator apps because SMS 2FA sucks balls and is unencrypted. Low paid CS reps are easily socially engineered or outright bribed, and it is easy to find your phone number with online open source intelligence, such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. and some easy to find tools.
