Admin notice: We strongly encourage everyone joining use a VPN. Hextube now has added functionality that should anonymize everyone who join's IP but it's still a good idea to use one.

First up is Elvira's Haunted Hills. The setting is Carpathia. The year is 1851. When Elvira gets kicked out of an Inn for a slight monetary discrepancy, she is rescued by a local who takes her to stay at the castle in the hills high above the village. The fact that she happens to resemble the count’s former “missing” wife opens a can of worms or two.

Next up is Vamp (1986), in what is a clear inspiration for Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn, two fraternity pledges go to a sleazy bar in search of a stripper for their college friends, unaware it is occupied by vampires led by Grace Jones.

What is the explanation for the new VPN advisory? Is it just because of peertube?

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 3 points 9 months ago

Everyone should always browse from behind a vpn

I disagree. VPN is a huge bottleneck on internet speed and latency. Also if you are relying on VPN for "privacy", you are just moving your trust from your ISP company to the VPN company. A VPN company could just as easily monitor your traffic as your ISP might.

The only real benefit of using a VPN is adding an additional layer between you and other peers in a p2p situation.

I'm not sure, I was just told to include it in our movie posts from now on.

I would like further information from the admin. To my knowledge, a user IP won't be exposed to other users unless they click the "embed" button on peertube. Cytube gives every user a warning message before embedding the peertube player.

I think watching vimeo embeds won't expose a user IP to other users.
