Gaza’s government media office accused the Israeli army of “committing a horrific massacre”. More than 70 people were killed and about 250 others wounded, it said in a statement on Thursday.

The citizens had congregated at al-Rashid Street, where aid trucks carrying flour were believed to be on the way. Al Jazeera verified footage showing the bodies of dozens of killed and wounded Palestinians being carried onto trucks as no ambulances could reach the area.

“I have been waiting since yesterday. At about 4.30 this morning, trucks started to come through. Once we approached the aid trucks, the Israeli tanks and warplanes started firing at us, as if it was a trap.

The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on Dec. 12 that called for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war amid an intensifying humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The General Assembly resolution came after the U.N. Security Council, the only body in the U.N. with the power to pass legally binding resolutions, was unable to pass a cease-fire resolution because the U.S. blocked it. The U.S. has a long history of using its Security Council veto to support Israel.

[1][2][3]

In addition to vetoing the Dec. 8 cease-fire resolution, the U.S. vetoed an Oct. 18 resolution calling for “humanitarian pauses.” The latter vote happened during President Joe Biden’s trip to Israel, and the U.S. delegate on the Security Council said the council needed to let U.S. diplomacy “play out.” The delegate expressed disappointment that the resolution draft didn’t condone Israel’s right to self-defense.

[4][5]

The U.S. has vetoed resolutions critical of Israel more than any other council member – 45 times as of December 18, 2023, according to an analysis by Blue Marble. The U.S. has vetoed 89 Security Council resolutions in total since 1945, meaning slightly over half of its vetoes have been used on resolutions critical of Israel. Of the vetoed resolutions, 33 pertained to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories or the country’s treatment of the Palestinian people.

The US is the single biggest supporter of the Israeli genocide. You genuinely believe the president of the United States can do nothing about this? That it's so incredibly complex that the US president has no sway over these decisions. You're going to drive me insane, I am going insane. I can't keep seeing shit like this.

Who am I shilling for? As far as I'm aware I'm not promoting anyone here. The sources are literally direct links to the UN website. These are not opinion pieces that can be argued. The US did this the US is responsible for its own actions. The president of the United States, head of the executive branch is responsible for their own actions. I'm so confused as to what you think I'm doing here

Are you suggesting that the head of the most powerful military in the world and the individual responsible for US international diplomacy who has the power to organize treaties and appoint ambassadors should not be held accountable for their actions?

Or is it that you think the US has no control over its client state that could hardly survive without its sponsorship? Because if that's the case there is historical precedent that it does. There have has been more than one occasion where Israeli overstepped far enough that the standing US president has to tell them to cut that shit out and they did. Sure maybe Bibi has turned Israeli into a rogue state, if that's the case so you really think we could't stop him? The US has invaded for much less

Let's presume, for a moment, that you are not being disingenuous. Let's also presume that Biden simply won't do the thing you want him to do, which is the most likely scenario. What is your endgame? We know what will happen: Trump will get elected. He will also definitely not do the thing you want. Now you have a president who will further embolden Israel to do as it pleases.

Care to offer an alternate endgame?

"A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or group of people when he or she does not benefit and may even suffer losses." By this definition, sitting out the vote when you want Israel to stop, thereby allowing an even more pro-Israel president to become elected, is stupid.

edit: It's been 13 hours and so far, crickets. As I thought would happen.
