Idk why you're being downvoted, the country chose to be The Gambia, post independence, in order to avoid confusion with Zambia. Unless this changed after the fall of Jammeh?
I checked Wikipedia, it still shows “The Gambia,” and the only change after Jammeh left is that it is no longer called an Islamic republic.
Huh. Maybe people think this is some kind of British imposition? But like, it's not.
