Tree of Life (2011)

I was into weird movies at the time, and still am, so I went alone to some small theater that was showing it. A few people walked out in the middle of the movie because after a full hour, nothing noteworthy actually happened. At the end of the movie when the lights went on (and still nothing actually happened the whole movie) everyone who was still there looked around in confusion and just started leaving. I had no answers either.

Don't forget the confusing big bang/dinosaur bit in the middle of the movie that did nothing for the story nor had anything to do with it. I wished I walked out like many people did, I stayed hoping it would eventually make sense. I did not..

lol i love the imagery here, just a bunch of people returning to lucidity and trying to figure out what just happened at the same time

We went to see that one with a group of friends. A couple of people in the group thought it was amazing and deep, and the rest of us thought it was empty and pretentious. We wound up having a very loud two-hour debate in the parking lot afterward.

I remember seeing this movie years ago and I'm still sure you could convince me it was just a fever dream. I think the floating space tree parts are where it went a little too far.

Terrence Malik doesn't know how to write movies. He is good at cinematography but that's about it.
