You're not wrong, but like... The dude was already a random wasteland kid when he was picked up by the Brotherhood. Can't really blame him for being a dumbass when he had pretty much no education other than "technology bad. Mutants bad."

That's fair, if he grew up in the BoS base and didn't get any real education.
