Not that I don't believe what's being said here, but can anybody who speaks Hebrew confirm the subtitles are accurate translations?

This is from the Tantura documentary, about the 1948 massacre of the Palestinian village Tantura. Highly recommend giving it a watch. It’s absolutely chilling.

I don’t speak Hebrew, but saw this documentary, it’s made by Israelis. The quote is correct. The whole documentary is filled with dudes like this “oh yeah, I’m a murderer, but my wife doesn’t know, it happened, what am I going to do about that hahaha”; beyond disgusting.

Is it this one you're talking about?

Tantura (2022) - Internet Archive

Description: When Israeli graduate student Teddy Katz meticulously documented a massacre of Palestinian civilians surrounding Israel's independence, he was initially celebrated for his groundbreaking work. But soon, he was stripped of his degrees and was publicly shamed as a fraudulent traitor. Decades later, incendiary new evidence emerges to corroborate Teddy's initial findings, not just vindicating him, but raising profound questions about how Israelis — and we all — deal with the darker chapters of history.

IMDb: In the war of 1948 hundreds of Palestinian villages were depopulated. Israelis call it 'The War of Independence. Palestinians call it 'Nakba"'. The film examines one village - Tantura and why "Nakba" is taboo in Israeli society.

"Oh shit, he's not showing us trying to ethnically cleanse the people who lived here to create our ethnostate in a good light! What a traitor and a fraud!"

I think with the original source being verified, that's good enough to check. Thanks for identifying it. Much appreciated.

Always happy to help

If you want to double check you can probably throw it through an AI transcriber.

I doubt you'll get an answer to this, unless they speak hebrew and are anti-zionist as well. Btw for those interested in digging deeper into these testimonies are in relation to the Tantura Massacre in 1948, as mentioned in this video.

Which is unthinkable, much like people speaking American English are necessarily fans of the military industrial complex.

It's not unthinkable. Many supporters of Jewish Voice for Peace are in this category, meaning they speak hebrew and are anti-zionist. Let's not forget that JVP is the largest jewish anti-zionist organization in the world.

In relation to your example though, there is no common ground between hebrew and american english because hebrew was the mother tongue of no one for almost 2000 years.

Pretty sure they were being sarcastic. There's obviously tons of anti-zionist Hebrew speakers.

I would say the MIC is far from a universal positive for Americans, even some far right idiots have horseshoed around to being opposed to it in the right contexts

[-] masterspace@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 months ago

From reading more about the documentary, it sounds like some veterans explicitly said a massacre didn't happen, but then again that's one of those things where even one unforced admission to something that damning is pretty sus in itself.
