They thought they would fight ill trained and equipped orcs rushing at them in waves to be gunned down.

Instead they faced well trained and equipped soldiers, with much more artillery and air support than they have and no shortage of ammunition.

Westerners believe themselves to be immune to propaganda, while actually the most propagandized people on earth.

In their defense: Unless you check out alternative media, you only get to hear news straight out the Ukrainian HQ.
