It may be private, but it's sure as fuck not personal property. If enough people use it, it should absolutely be controlled by its users rather than one or two unelected people.

If a person doesn't want to give them personal things better not use any of those networks or use them scarcely. But, alternatives are pretty much underdeveloped especially for companies, shops and similar. Most of the local small shops communicate with customers over Facebook pages even when they have hosted websites. It gives them bigger exposure. Business console on Facebook is bloated, and too cumbersome in my opinion.
