Saudi Arabia claims 'record' low price as Marubeni wind power deal hits $15/MWh
(www.rechargenews.com)
This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.
Record for Saudi, or record in general...?
'Cause I'm currently paying (CAD) between $109.7 and $140.8 (so USD $79.9 - $102.5) per MWh.
Edit: Damn it, I shifted a decimal in the mental conversion from KWh to MWh. Fixed the values above. (10x)
That Saudi power is much cheaper than I thought...
I'm enjoying solar on my Australian roof.
Don't understand why the fuck we're investing so poorly in solar farms and everyone just complains about price of electricity. We're the sun cancer capital of the world; when life gives you sun, clear skies, and a thinned ozone layer, make electricity!
Paying around 300€/MWh in germany ...
But also we have well insulated houses, so its not that bad (i think). I am paying around 100 bucks for electricity and gas for one person.
Genuine question, where in Canada are you getting that price and is that including the Demand charge?
Cheap power in Canada is something I would genuinely be interested in
Southern BC.
Not sure what you mean by demand charges. Additional cost for peak hours perhaps? Not really a thing where I live.
Energy is billed at the lower of the two numbers I gave for the first ~1.4MWh, then the rest is billed at the higher rate. (metered between two months) It doesn't matter when you use the energy.
Aside from the energy costs, there's a ~$0.22/day base charge and 5% gst. That's it.
Edit: (see the edit in previous comment)
Southern BC is very close to the American Pacific Northwest, which is full of hydroelectric dams.
Yup, but we have quite a few of our own as well. Taking advantage of the Rocky Mountains above and below the border.
Cries in USA, paying $230/mWh. At least solar effectively zeroes out my usage via net metering, in the warmer months.
That's milliwatt hours, and not megawatt hours. Capital M for mega, lower case m for milli in units.
Or maybe prices are just 230.000.000.000 USD/MWh...do you happen to live in Texas?
