I attempt to write a desktop env like xfce. I would like to discuss, if xfce could ditch GTK+ on wayland.

Perhaps you're looking for LXDE/ LXQT. The latter is only the WM (think of it as more barebones). There are plenty other WMs, check distros and their (frequently unofficial) spins like "archbang"..

I'm happy on Debian! I wouldn't switch, I am not disliking QT or GTK. The first iteration needs to reuse these components anyways!
