I really wish that was true but I honestly don't. Sure here on lemmy (or even on reddit) people have a very negative stance on ads but I know a lot of people that are addicted on instagram or any other mainstream social media that just don't care about ads at all. Even the ones they do are so dependent on these platforms they would just rather see ads and use them instead of switching.
I was talking with some fellow social media haters the other day about how disturbing social media addiction is. Like a family member I visited, him and his partner were glued to Instagram almost the whole time I was there (several days) and was spouting stuff he 'learned' on Insta as fact. Yet I use Instagram (for a non-profit) and can't stand that every 1-3 posts is an ad. It drives be bonkers.
This same family member and partner also refuse to let their kid be exposed to Tik Tok becauee they view it as unhealthy and addictive yet can't recognise their own, honestly scary, addiction.
Or when I've stayed in shared accommodation at events seeing people around me wake up and immediately grab their phones and start doom scrolling.
