MODERATORS
It's not like Tokyo University is one of Japan's most prestigious universities which has a lot of international students and an English website in which you can see all the programs they offer, and see that Japanese studies and Asian studies are separate programs, and that Japanese History part of Japanese Studies, not Asian Studies.
A friend of mine got a degree in Asian Studies with a focus on Japan. When she actually went there and talked to random Japanese people about how she did Asian studies the Japanese people would often ask her "Oh, so you really like Thailand or something?"
