I found the Messmer fight extremely hard too but it was fun. Did not feel too unfair though I really think the windows between his combos are too narrow. It was fun.Second phase I had no idea what was going on. Still don't. Thankfully it's a Thatcher-IRA kinda deal so I had to only get lucky once.
Tbf though I don't know if he gave up at Messmer or at some other point. The article could likely just be using any art from the game.
