Lemmy.world is run by the same people as mastodon.world. I guess a lot of users from mastodon.world went to Lemmy.world and the rest was word of mouth.

[-] Laticauda@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 years ago

I think the name does a lot of heavy lifting in regards to pulling in new users. It sounds more official or general because of the world part.

[-] tea@lemmy.today 8 points 2 years ago

Yeah, people just want a "generic" place because they generally don't want to be pidgeon holed. I have nice and inoffensive lemmy.world and lemmy.today accounts because of this. I'm basically a vanilla NPC in my life and "sh.itjust.works" is simply too spicy!

[-] ikapoz@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

I’m on the spicy instance? I couldn’t tell.

This is more or less what I thought when I first joined.

[-] victron@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Also Sync has it as default.

lemmy.world isn't run by communists

[-] kameecoding@programming.dev 9 points 2 years ago

that sounds like a downside, unless you mean the kinda USSR/Chinese "communists" that are just state capitalists/feudalists

[-] Laticauda@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Well lemmygrad.ml loves to make memes about how great the Chinese government is and how everyone who criticises the Chinese government is just mean, and they're kind of the poster child for lemmy.ml, so...

[-] kameecoding@programming.dev -1 points 2 years ago

well those are like pro fascist people, not exactly communists, because current china is very much fascistic in it's behavior.

[-] LoveSausage@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Not like the actual fascist cuddling neo-libs that run Lemmy world . Stop using words you don't understand. Here is a response to Lemmy world preemptively Defederate hexbear (since the wrong opinions are not allowed on Lemmy world) https://lemmygrad.ml/post/1120052

[-] kameecoding@programming.dev 0 points 2 years ago

hey man, don't care about your whataboutism, if you think China is a communist country and you are a big fan of what you are doing, then you like fascism simple as.

[-] LoveSausage@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

if I was, you would be incorrect. Go read a book. .world is run by fascist cuddling neolibs either way. You shouldn't use words you don't understand.

[-] kameecoding@programming.dev 0 points 2 years ago

sure buddy, whatever makes you feel better

[-] Reliant1087@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

That's exactly the kind of people who run ml sadly.

I think the draw is that it’s trying really hard to basically be Reddit on the fediverse. For the people who use the fediverse as a Reddit alternative that is probably seen as good.

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

For the rest of us: that shit's lame as hell

To each their own though

I agree, they’re speedrunning every bad decision that allows Reddit to be such a festering reactionary shithole.

The Reddit refugee wave is mad about Apollo not the fact Reddit sucks lol.

[-] Hikiru@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

I heard lemmy.ml is run by genocide denying tankies so that put me off from it a little

[-] maracuya@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

wjats so good about lemmy.world compared to lemmy.ml

nothing. lemmy.ml just makes more sense to me.i figure the devs of the protocol should be able to maintain and update their own server, and so far that has proven to be correct.
