Was just thinking about whether there was an open-source alternative the other day, thanks for sharing.
There is also a mature project: Privatebin
There's a few dozen open-source alternatives out there. Pastezone, Hastebin, 0x0.st, pasta, trashpaste, etc.

That pages shows how to use curl to upload to 0x0.st.
I've used the pastebinit program listed on that page to upload to paste.debian.net, but it supports other sites as well.
