Former Bungie chief legal officer Don McGowan credits Sony’s discipline for pushing Bungie to focus on new player acquisition and running Destiny 2 like a business, shedding light on behind-the-scenes changes at the studio.

Destiny 2 has seen a whirlwind of changes recently, and according to former Bungie chief legal officer Don McGowan, much of that is thanks to Sony’s influence.

In a new post on LinkedIn, McGowan didn’t hold back his thoughts, saying that Sony has pushed Bungie to make much-needed adjustments to how it handles its flagship game, Destiny 2.

What 'whirlwind of changes' has happened to Destiny 2?

Maybe I'll actually consider playing it again if it's major enough.

I doubt it, just from this article, because most of my issues were with the monetization and 'running destiny 2 like a business' doesn't make me expect they'll fix my issues with it lol

Yeah I'm pretty sure the changes he praises have made me not play this game in about 3 years.

And running game studios as a business sound wrong to me. Yes, you need to make money, but it's a creative branch and as soon as you make a pipeline for how you make your games, people will get bored of it, see Ubisoft.

Maybe they had big issues with monetization but what he's talking about doesn't sound healthy at all for the developers and artists working there.

Also I'm still a bit salty that I paid for destiny2 and then they made it free and introduced DLCs. Such a slap in the face.

The part that got me is that they made it free and reset my light level.

Suddenly I was on the same light level as people that had just started playing. The only difference between us being that I had some exotics.
