There's stuff out there that can just make the pill ineffective? You'd think this would be known more widely.
There are several. Grapefruit is another example that comes to mind.
And I agree, these things should be much more widely known. But now you know!

It has a chemical that is a potent CYP3A4 inhibitor - it basically turns off the enzyme that metabolizes a good chunk of medicines.
Earl grey tea has it too.
Another big one is antibiotics. I can tell you that none of my doctors when I lived in Texas mentioned it. It just slips their mind...
